VILLANOVA, Pa - Less than 24 hours after the first meet of 2020, Villanova's men's swimming and diving team was back in action. The Wildcats hosted Providence on Jan. 11 and showed no signs of fatigue from the previous meet.
Thanks to eight first-place finishes, Villanova coasted to a 130-75 victory.
The Wildcats were dominant in diving events, taking the top three spots in both the 1m and 3m dives. In both events,
Michael Perra placed first, while
Michael Ackert took second and
Joe Swindal placed third. In addition to that, Villanova also swept the 500 free with Jake McIntrye,
Stephen Krecsmar and
John Davidson claiming the top three spots.
McIntrye also placed first in the 200 free, swimming 1:43.73 in the event. Meanwhile, Krecsmar took first in the 50 free with a time of 21.24.
Justin Cucchi took first in the 200 IM (1:53.62) and the 200 backstroke (1:52.59).
Andrew Kelley and
Jackson Kabas took first in the 100 freestyle and 200 breaststroke, respectively.
Villanova claimed the top spot in both the 200 medley relay and the 200 freestyle relay. They also had a second-place finish in the 200 medley relay.
Reid Hutcherson placed second in the 1,000 freestyle with a time of 9:49.76.
Kevin Geist finished second in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:45.74, behind only McIntrye.
Will Ritchie took second in the 200 backstroke, swimming 1:57.48.
In addition to his first-place finish, Kabas took third in the 200 IM with a time of 1:57.15.
Alex Klippel and
Ryan Maher had third-place finishes in the 1,000 free and 100 free, respectively.
Villanova's next meet takes place on Jan. 17 at Rutgers and is a women's only meet. It is scheduled to take place at 5:00 p.m.
