MORGANTOWN, W.Va - Villanova men's and women's swimming and diving wrapped up their weekend of competing in the Mountaineer Invitational at West Virginia University. Upon the conclusion of the final event on the final day, the women had placed third while the men placed fifth.
The women had a total of 1,397.50 points. They finished behind West Virginia, who placed second with 1,410 points, and William & Mary, who had 1,650.50 points and placed first. The men found themselves in fifth place with 661 points. West Virginia took home first with 2,111 points, Kenyon College secured second with 1,579.50, William & Mary placed third with 1,032.50 points and Carnegie Mellon placed fourth with 876.50 points.
Villanova Women
On the final day of competition, Villanova put together two first-place finishes, and 10 in the top six.
Kelly Montesi took the top spot in the 200 backstoke with a time of 1:57.04, besting the next finisher by over one second. Montesi also touched third in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:03.86.
Milly Routledge picked up the other top finish for the Wildcats, going 50.32 in the 100 freestyle.

Perri Stahl and Montesi put together a second-place performance in the 400 freestyle relay by swimming 3:24.30. Meanwhile,
Kaitlin Gravell took third in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:20.24.
Nicole Welch swam the 1,650 in 17:05.34, taking fourth in the process.
Brenna McLaughlin took fifth in the event, swimming 17:06.11.
Micaela Grassi also took fourth in her event, the 200 butterfly, with a time of 2:03.90.
Tarryn Els was sixth in the 200 butterfly, going 2:04.32.
Bridie Dunn placed sixth in the 1m dive, registering a score of 238.50.
Villanova Men
The Wildcats put together a strong performance on the final day of the invitational, getting three top-six finishes and six in the top eight.
Justin Cucchi garnered a first-place finish in the 200 backstroke swimming 1:44.77, almost two seconds faster than the next finisher.
John Dacidson placed sixth in the 1,650 with a time of 15:52.23. Jake McIntye took seventh in the event, swimming 15:56.37. The Wildcats got a sixth-place finish out of
Andrew Kelley, who swam 1:50.29.
In the 200 breaststoke,
Francis Prikasky went 2:04.74 and took seventh.
Michael Perra placed eighth in the platform dive, with 174.80.
With the invtiational over, the next time the Wildcats will be in the pool is Nov. 26 when they travel to La Salle.
