MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - Villanova men's and women's swimming and diving competed in the first day of the first-ever WVU Mountaineer Invitational on Nov. 21. For the day, a total of 10 events took place. The Villanova women had five top-three finishes and currently sit in second place with 391.50 points, trailing only William and Mary. The men are fifth with a total of 170 points, with West Virginia currently in first.

The Wildcats finished fourth and fifth in the first event, the 200 freestyle relay. A group of
Abbey Berloco,
Kelly Montesi,
Anastasia Kontrimas and
Milly Routledge swam 1:34.54 to secure fourth, while
Micaela Grassi,
Perri Stahl,
Rayann Jaryszak and
Grace Wielar finished fifth in 1:35.85. Routledge also finished third in the 50 free with a time of 23.21.
Nicole Welch finished second in the "A" Final of the 500 Freestyle with a time of 4:54.95.
Emily Provenzo was not far behind, swimming 4:55.98 and taking third in the event.
Anna Turner took sixth with a time of 4:59.68.
Brenna McLaughlin and
Andrea Fong swam in the "B" and "C" Final, respectively.
In the 200 IM,
Kelly Montesi swam 2:01.94, good enough for second place. Jaryszak finished fourth in the event with a time of 2:03.64, while
Kaitlin Gravell took sixth in 2:04.44.
Tarryn Els turned in the top time of the "B" Final, besting the next finisher by .21 seconds.
Villanova got their lone first-place finish on the day from the 400 medley relay team, composed of Montesi,
Margaret Kleinsmith, Grassi and Routledge. The foursome finished the event in 3:44.19. The Wildcats also finished fourth in that event thanks to Wielar, Jaryszak, Els and Berloco.

Villanova finished 10th out of 23 teams in the 200 freestyle behind the foursome of
Nick Fiddler,
Andrew Kelley,
Jordan Fetterman and
Stephen Krecsmar.
Jake McIntyre,
John Davidson,
Reid Hutcherson and
Noah Chernik swam in the "B" Final of the 500 freestyle, finishing second, fifth, sixth and seventh respectively in that flight.
Alex Klippel finished in the "C" Final of the event.
Justin Cucchi took fifth in the 200 IM, swimming a time of 1:50.51. Fetterman and
Jackson Kabas swam in the "B" Final of the event.
The teams return to competition again tomorrow morning for the second day of events.
