VILLANOVA, Pa. – The Wildcats hosted Connecticut on Jan. 25 for what would be the last home meet of the month. Coming off of a win at Richmond the night before, Villanova's women's team tamed the Huskies, 179-119. On the men's side, Connecticut was victorious, 205-95.
It was a monumental day for
Kelly Montesi, who set new pool records in the 200 backstroke and 100 butterfly. Montesi went 2:00.28 and 55.41 in the events, respectively. She also took first place in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:01.41. However, she was not the only one setting new marks as the 200-medley relay team consisting of Montesi,
Rayann Jaryszak,
Micaela Grassi and
Perri Stahl set the pool record with a time of 1:43.11.
Nicole Welch again took the top spot in the distance events, winning the 1,650 freestyle (17:21.35) and the 500 freestyle (5:04.15).
Emily Provenzo was second in the 1,650 with a time of 17:22.35.
Milly Routledge touched first in three events, going 1:49.68 in the 200 freestyle, 23.52 in the 50 freestyle and 50.90 in the 100 freestyle.
Kaitlin Gravell won the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:19.41 and also took first in the 400 IM in 4:23.20. She swam 1:05.66 in the 100 breaststroke, taking third.
Grace Wielar won the 100 backstroke in 57.31. She also took second in the 200 back with a time of 2:04.11. Stahl claimed second in the 50 freestyle (24.18), while Jaryszak was second in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:05.43.
Abbey Berloco had a pair of third-place finishes, swimming 1:54.29 in the 200 freestyle and 52.60 in the 100 freestyle.
Tarryn Els was third in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:05.44, while Grassi was third in the 100 butterfly with a time of 56.37.
For the men,
Justin Cucchi earned two first-place finishes, swimming 1:48.67 in the 200 backstroke and 4:02.27 in the 400 IM. He also registered a time of 1:41.28 in the 200 freestyle.
Michael Perra also had a top finish, scoring 323.02 in the 3 mtr dive.
Michael Ackert was second in the event, scoring 295.43.
Villanova took second in the 200-medley relay with a time of 1:33.70.
Andrew Kelley was second in the 100 backstroke with a time of 50.91, while
Kevin Geist was second in the 100 butterfly in 51.31.
Noah Chernik was third in the 1650 freestyle, completing the event in 16:31.43.
Jake McIntyre finished the 500 freestyle in 4:44.79, good enough for third.
Francis Prikasky took third in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:11.62, while
Stephen Krecsmar was third in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:41.87. The 200 freestyle relay team took third with a time of 1:26.90.
The Wildcats will be back in action on Jan. 30 when they head to West Virginia for a 2:00 p.m. meet.
