Wildcats Win a Pair Against La Salle

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - It was a quick turnaround that the Wildcats faced, but they handled it like experts. After a three-day competition at West Virginia last week, Villanova swim and dive was back in action on Tuesday, taking on La Salle. Both the men's and women's teams picked up victories on the day, with the men winning 172-126 and the women winning 187-106.

Women's Team
Villanova was dominant in the pool. They took first overall in the first 14 events before conceding the final two to La Salle.

Fresh off a BIG EAST Female Athlete of the Week honor, Kelly Montesi earned wins in the 1000 freestyle and the 200 butterfly. Nicole Welch took first in the 200 freestyle and the 500 freestyle. Villanova swept the 200, with Emily Provenzo taking second and Andrea Fong claiming third. Grace Wielar, Rayann Jaryszak, Abbey Berloco, Milly Routledge, Kaitlin Gravell, Perri Stahl and Micaela Grassi all finished first in their respective events.

The 200 medley relay team took first and second. Overall, the Wildcats placed in the top three 27 times.

Men's Team
It was a breakout day for the men's team as they earned their first win of the season. They took first overall in 10 events.

Justin Cucchi was the big winner of the day, claiming first in the 200 freestyle, 200 backstroke and the 200 IM. Jake McIntrye touched first in the 1000 freestyle, while John Davidson finished second. Davidson would later claim victory in the 500, with McIntyre taking second. Andrew Kelley won the 100 backstroke, but also took third in the 200 backstroke.

Francis Prikasky took the 100 breaststroke and placed second in the 200 breaststroke. Stephen Krecsmar was the top finisher in the 50 freestyle, but also took second in the 100 free. Villanova also took first in the 200 medley relay. Michael Ackert took first in the 1m dive.
