The Villanova women's lacrosse team will travel to Storrs, Connecticut on Saturday afternoon to face a nationally ranked UConn Huskies team. Both teams enter play losing their last conference games, with Villanova at 4-9, 0-2, while No. 16 UConn is 10-2, 1-1.
Villanova is 2-10 all-time against UConn, after the two split the season series last season.
In their 19-14 loss to Marquette, the Wildcats saw seven different players score, with freshman
Sydney Pappas leading the team with four scores. Senior
Caroline Curnal also added a hat trick and secured 13 draw controls, moving her into fifth place in the country with 8.42 draw controls per game. On defense, seniors
Libby McKenna and
Sydney Frank had two caused turnovers, while
Caroline Phelps recorded five ground balls and three draw controls.
The Huskies last match saw them take No. 8 Denver into overtime, losing 14-13. The loss snaps UConn's nine game win streak that began in mid-February. Two Huskies have surpassed the 50 point mark on the season, as Sydney Watson has 55 (40g, 15a) and Kate Shaffer has 50 (37g, 13a). Watson enters the third week of conference play two spots ahead of Curnal in the country for draw controls per game, sitting in third at 10.42. Ariana Kline leads the team defensively with 19 caused turnovers on the season.
