PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Wildcats return to action for their last mid-week and non-conference game of the season on Wednesday, Apr. 17 against Temple at 5 p.m. Villanova is 8-6 and 2-1 in the BIG EAST and Temple, the former BIG EAST member, is 4-9 and 1-2 in the American Conference.
Last Game
During the 2018 season Villanova hosted Temple at the Villanova Stadium where it defeated the visiting Owls 14-13 in a nail-biting BIG EAST contest.
Liz Trojan led the Wildcats with three goals during the contest and was accompanied by five others each with two goals apiece. Temple's Maddie Gebert, who returns this season as a junior, led the Owls with six goals in last year's matchup.
At the end of the game, Villanova led in shots, shots on goal, ground balls and draw controls. Temple led in clear attempts, free-position shots, saves and had fewer turnovers.
This will mark the 23
rd all-time matchup and Villanova will look to capture its third win over Temple in the series.
Villanova
After taking its first conference loss of the season to then No. 23 Georgetown on Saturday, Villanova's team statistics has seen minor changes.
Brittany Bruno and
Liz Trojan lead the team with 27 goals each.
Katie Comerford and
Ashley Lynch still lead the team in points and assists. Comerford has a team high 25 assists and 40 points and Lynch sits behind with 23 assists and 36 points.
Grainger Rosati,
Devin Hassinger and
Kim McDonough have also been key contributors to Villanova's goals scored and Hassinger and Rosati have contributed to the team's draw controls. Hassinger sits in front with 99 and Rosati follows with 41.
Sydney Frank sits a head of all defenders and teammates with 26 turnovers caused and is in a three-way tie for third with 21 ground balls collected.
Julia Arrix and
Kelsey Mentzer have been staples in Villanova's defense. At midfield, Hassinger and Rosati have also helped the team's defensive strength, causing a combined 30 turnovers.
In the net,
Alexa Moro has seen the most action, starting in 12 of the 14 games as a freshman. She has seen a total of 336 shots, has recorded 117 saves and has a save percentage of .452.
Olivia Gonsalves has seen action in six games for the Wildcats.
Temple
This year, the Owls have seven individuals who have recorded goals in the double digits. Gebert is at the top of the list with 26 goals followed by Olivia Thompson with 22 for second most. Three other individuals have scored 13, one other has tallied 14 and the other 10.
Bridget Whitaker leads the team in assists with 13. The sophomore is second on the team in points with 26 and draw controls (21) and is tied for first in caused turnovers (19). Amber Lambeth leads the Owls in the draw control category with a total of 40.
Three goalkeepers have seen action in the net for Temple this season. Maryn Lowell has seen the most action and has appeared in 12 games, has made 79 saves and has a .399 save percentage.

Villanova will head to Indianapolis, Ind. on Saturday, Apr. 20 to face the Butler Bulldogs at 12 p.m.
