Regular Season Ends for MLAX With 9-6 Loss to Georgetown

Specialists have strong games as Glomb, Melchionni and Wilson all lead the game in categories

VILLANOVA, Pa. – The regular season came to an end on Friday night for Villanova men's lacrosse, falling to the No. 8/12 Georgetown Hoyas 9-6 at Villanova Stadium.

Anthony Wilson made 13 saves between the pipes for Villanova (6-7, 3-2 BIG EAST) and George Glomb won 11 faceoffs on the day.

Ryan Martin and Nick Lucchesi each scored a pair of goals for the 'Cats while Kessy Cox posted a goal and an assist. Dan Martin added the other Villanova score and one helper each came from David Link and Luke Williams.

Jake Melchionni totaled a five caused-turnover, seven ground-ball day (both game highs) between the lines for the Wildcats, Beau Kemler scooped up five GBs and David Evanchick caused a pair of turnovers.

Sloppy play early led to a 2-0 Georgetown lead to open the first, then it was D. Martin putting Villanova on the board at 8:19 off an assist from Williams. The Hoyas scored the next three before Cox made a strong individual effort to beat the keeper and make it 5-2 at the end of the opener.

The visitors managed the first two of the next frame, but it was Lucchesi and R. Martin each striking unassisted for the final scores of the half to make it 7-4 after 30 minutes.

Georgetown struck a few minutes into the third, then Lucchesi became Villanova's first multi-goal scorer by picking a corner to make it 8-5. Neither team was able to find the twine the rest of the period with Evanchick causing a turnover as time expired to keep the 'Cats down three after three.

It was another Hoya goal to start the fourth's scoring before R. Martin tallied his second of the day off a feed from Cox to close the deficit back to three. The final eight minutes of the contest went by with no more scores, ending the game with a 9-6 loss for the Wildcats on the scoreboard.

UP NEXT: The 'Cats await the other Friday night results to determine their seed in the upcoming BIG EAST Tournament, which begins with the semifinals on Thursday.
