Milwaukee, Wis.- Anchored by five goals from
Luke Keating and a 6-5 lead heading into halftime, the Villanova Wildcats (8-4, 3-1 BIG EAST) claimed a 10-8 victory over Marquette (4-9, 2-2 BIG EAST) on Saturday afternoon in Milwaukee.
Marquette's Bobby O'Grady opened the score and gave the Golden Eagles a 1-0 lead with 13:41 left in the first quarter. The Wildcats answered netting four straight goals, Keating assisted three out of the four goals. First the graduate student set up
Patrick Daly and dished it to classmate
J.P. Basile to make with 2-1 at the 7:57 mark. Basile just a minute and a half later set up Daly and Keating ended the run dishing it to
Matt Campbell for an EMO goal. The Golden Eagles netted a pair before the end of the quarter to make it 4-3 Villanova.
Marquette netted the opening two goals of the second quarter to take a 5-4 lead, but Keating would bring the Wildcats back. The graduate student netted a pair of unassisted goals to give Villanova the lead again, 6-5, heading into halftime.Â
Villanova's offense came out in the third quarter strong scoring three straight goals.Â
Tucker Goodelle opened the second half with an unassisted goal. Keating continued the run scoring the final two goals. Campbell set up Keating for his first goal at 6:54 and
Tripp Robinson took a ground ball from a
Will Vitton save and dished it to Keating to make it 9-5. Marquette scored in the final minutes of the quarter to make it 9-6 at the end of the third.
In the final quarter Marquette netted a pair of goals but Keating would score his fifth to make the final 10-8.
Vitton finished with 17 saves in his eighth win of the season. The senior keeper had a game high seven saves in the opening quarter.Â
Justin Coppola went 11-for-21 from the faceoff x with four ground balls while
Chet Comizio had six ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers.
Villanova will close on the regular season on Friday night when they host the Georgetown Hoyas. The game can be seen on BEDN on FloSports and first faceoff is scheduled for 7:00 P.M. The Wildcats have clinched a spot in the 2022 BIG EAST Tournament, seeding will be finalized at the end of the regular season.Â
