Villanova Wildcats Set to Face the Princeton Tigers Tuesday

PRINCETON, N.J. –  The women's lacrosse team is headed back on the road this time for a non-conference contest against the Princeton Tigers. Competition is set for Tuesday, Apr. 2 at 7 p.m.in Princeton, N.J. at the Sherrerd Field at Class of 1952 Stadium. Head coach Julie Young and the Wildcats will face her alma mater after coming off a BIG EAST win over the Marquette Golden Eagles. Headed into the contest Villanova posts a 7-4 overall record and a 1-0 conference record. Princeton enters with an overall record of 5-3 and a 1-1 record in Ivy League play.

Coach Young graduated from Princeton in 2001 where she departed with many accolades. In addition to receiving four All-Ivy Selections, being named Ivy League Rookie of the Year and being named a top five finalist for the Tewaaraton Award, Young still currently holds two records. She is first all-time in career ground balls with 289 and she is tied for second with herself after picked up 91 ground balls in back to back seasons.  

Wildcats
The women currently have seven individuals who have scored goals in the double figures. Liz Trojan and Devin Hassinger lead the pack with 20 goals apiece. Brittany Bruno, named to this week's BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, follows close behind with 17. Katie Comerford and Ashley Lynch have also been a huge part of the offense this season.
Comerford leads the team with 21 assists and Lynch is right behind with 20. The pair has also scored 12 goals of their own and leads the team in points with 33 and 32.

This week's BIG EAST Midfielder of the Week, Grainger Rosati and red-shirt senior Hassinger are the two biggest proponents in keeping the ball in Villanova's possession. Hassinger has a team high 76 draw controls and is six away from breaking her 2018 season high total of 81. Rosati is in second in draw controls with 38 and has also scored 13 goals.

Defensively, the 'Cats are led by Sydney Frank who has caused 20 turnovers as a freshman defender and has scooped up 17 ground balls. Hassinger also contributes to the team's 95 caused turnover total with 12. Rosati, Kelsey Mentzer and Julia Arrix have also had a hand in many caused turnovers with a combined 26.

Standing in the net, Alexa Moro now has a record of 7-3. In 647 minutes of action she has seen 280 shots, has recorded 105 saves and has posted a .477 save percentage. The freshman keeper is currently ranked No. 30 in save percentage and total saves and No. 33 in saves per game with 9.5.

Tigers
Princeton has four main offensive contributors. Elizabeth George sits at No. 1 on the team in goals (23) and assists (14) and draw controls (42) and is second in goals (23). Sitting close behind is Kyla Sears who has 21 goals, 13 assists and 34 points. Leading the team in goals this season is Tess D'Orsi who has racked up 26 goals and six assists for 32 points. Kathryn Hallett also adds 13 goals and three assists on the season.

On defense, senior Alex Argo has recorded a team high 10 caused turnovers and has picked up 16 ground balls. George and Sears have also added been a factor in Princeton's caused turnovers, each having caused eight.

Sophomore keeper, Sam Fish has recorded the most ground balls this season with 17. As the starting goalie, she has faced 205 shots, has recorded 68 saves and has allowed 84 goals. Fish's overall save percentage is .451

Looking Ahead
Villanova will stay on the road this week and take a trip to Norfolk, Va. to face Old Dominion on Saturday, Apr. 6 at 1 p.m. The Wildcats will return home on Saturday, Apr. 13 when they host Georgetown at 1 p.m. on Alumni Day in the Villanova Stadium.
