Women's Lacrosse Welcomes Richmond for Saturday Contest

VILLANOVA, Pa. – The Villanova women's lacrosse team will conclude its back-to-back home game stretch on Saturday, Mar. 16 when it welcomes Richmond University for a 1 p.m. competition.

Saturday's competition will honor the HEADstrong foundation: an organization that is "relentless in improving the quality of life for those affected by cancer." If you would like to make a donation on behalf of the program, you can head to the HEADstrong donation page

The Wildcats are currently on a three-game win streak and have an overall record of 5-3. The Spiders have a five-game win streak and are 6-1 on the season after falling to No. 12 Virginia in their second game of the season. This will be the first all-time matchup between the two opponents.

Villanova Wildcats
Recently Villanova has been receiving strong play from multiple players which has tossed up the individual team standings. Devin Hassinger still leads the team in goals (17) and draw controls (50). Liz Trojan moves to second on the team with 13 goals after recording 10 within the last three games.

Katie Comerford and Ashley Lynch still lead the team in points and assists. Comerford has tallied 24 points on 16 assists and eight goals while Lynch has 21 points on 12 assists and nine goals. Brittany Bruno, Rosati Grainger and Kim McDonough have also been important offensive competitors for the 'Cats. The trio has added a total of 25 goals and 12 assists. Rosati and Maggie Jennings have also helped contribute to the team's 107 total draw controls with 26 and 12 respectively.

Defensively, Sydney Frank, Kelsey Mentzer and Julia Arrix have continued to be huge factors in separating their opponents and Alexa Moro in the net. Frank leads the team with 14 caused turnovers as a freshman and she has also scooped up 13 ground balls. Mentzer and Arrix have also contributed to the team's caused turnovers and have forced eight and seven each.

In the goal, Moro has started in six of the eight contests and has played in 463 of the 480 total minutes. Throughout the eight games she has faced a total of 203 shots and has recorded 77 saves for a .494 save percentage.

Richmond Spiders
The primary leaders for the Spiders offense this season are Marissa Brown, Sam Geiersbach and Mia Castagnero. Brown sits first on the team with 28 points and 14 assists, she has also scored 14 goals and recorded 12 draw controls. Second on the team in points and assists is Geiersbach. She has recorded 12 points and 12 assists for a 24-point total. Leading the team in goals with 19 and sitting at third in points (22) is Castagnero.

Katie Sciandra and Madison Ostrick have also contributed 10 and 11 goals each. Ostrick has recorded 18 draw controls this season and sits behind Julie Ball at first with 32. Ball also leads the team with 18 caused turnovers and 23 ground balls.

Richmond has relied heavily on junior Megan Gianforte in the net. She has started in all seven contest and has played in 368 minutes of the 420-minute total. Gianforte has faced 156 shots and made 59 saves for a .509 save percentage. In five of the seven contests she has recorded saves in the double figures.

The competition will be broadcast on Nova Nation All-Access and live stats will be available on Stat Broadcast. There will also be Youth Day festivities available for local youth and families in attendance. There will be a kids zone with an arts and crafts station, corn hole and a bonus prize when kids in eighth grade and below pick up or punch their Prize Card.
