Johns Hopkins Downs Villanova

In women's lacrosse action at Villanova Stadium on Wednesday, April 18, the Johns Hopkins Blue Jays defeated the Villanova Wildcats by a score of 14-10. With the win, Johns Hopkins improves to 7-5 on the season, while Villanova falls to 5-9.

Villanova started strong, scoring the game's first two goals just five minutes into the contest. Sophomore Meghan Carolan (Hicksville, N.Y.) tallied the first goal with sophomore Caitlin Cocks (Northport, N.Y.) getting credited with the second. Johns Hopkins came right back with three-straight goals. Blue Jay junior Jamie Larrimore recorded her team's first two goals before freshman Heidi Pearce gave Johns Hopkins its first lead of the contest.

After Carolan tied the game at 3-3 with a goal at the 22:48 mark, the Blue Jays registered five consecutive goals to take an 8-3 advantage. Leading the five-goal barrage was Pearce and Burnett who netted two goals each. The other Blue Jay goal was scored by Larrimore. Johns Hopkins would go to halftime leading 8-4 after Villanova's Lauren Ferrara (Tabernacle, N.J.) scored with seven seconds remaining.

The Wildcats started the second half in fine fashion, as they tallied two of the first three goals of the second half to cut the Blue Jay lead to 9-6 with 25:27 left in regulation. After Liz Holland and Pearce scored her fourth goal of the game, the Blue Jays held an 11-6 lead with 13:12 to play.

Villanova made one last rally, as senior Julie Feddeman (Potomac, Md.) and Carolan scored back-to-back goals, making the score 12-9 with 6:39 left on the clock. However, the Blue Jays would put the game away when Larrimore recorded her fifth goal of the game and sophomore Marisa Baldwin added an insurance score, giving Johns Hopkins a 14-9 lead with just 6:50 to play.

In goal for Johns Hopkins, sophomore Jen McDonald made six saves to earn the win.
