Baseball Falls to Georgetown in Series Finale

Georgetown Pulls Away Late to Defeat Villanova 14–5

Box Score

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Villanova baseball team dropped the series finale to Georgetown, 14-5, on Sunday, May 3.

Georgetown struck first in the opening inning. Back-to-back singles to begin the frame put immediate pressure on the Wildcats, and the Hoyas capitalized with a run on a double play. Villanova limited the damage to just one despite the early traffic.

Villanova answered in the third. After working a pair of walks to put runners on first and second, senior Michael Whooley delivered a clutch two-out double into left field to drive in the Wildcats' first run and even the score at 1-1.

The Hoyas responded with a big bottom half of the inning, plating four runs. A walk, double, and another walk loaded the bases with one out before a wild pitch brought in a run. A gap double followed, clearing the bases and extending the lead. Georgetown added another on a hit-by-pitch with the bases loaded to make it 5-1.

The Wildcats quickly battled back. Sophomore JoJo Montgomery launched a three-run homer—his fourth of the season—to cut the deficit to one heading into the fourth.

Villanova completed the comeback in the fifth. Freshman Larry Hotaling singled to the outfield to bring home the tying run, evening the game at 5-5.

Georgetown regained control in the bottom of the fifth with a solo home run and an RBI single, taking a 7-5 lead into the sixth.

After a double play ended Villanova's half of the sixth, the Hoyas broke the game open. A leadoff single and two walks loaded the bases, and a one-out single plated two runs. A bases-loaded walk added another, and a two-out double cleared the bases as Georgetown scored six in the inning to stretch the lead to 13-5.

The Hoyas tacked on one more run in the seventh to make it 14-5.

Villanova was unable to mount another rally, falling 14-5 in the series finale.
