PROVIDENCE, R.I. — The Villanova softball team lost 8-0 to Providence Friday at Glay Field.
The 'Cats (11-36, 5-14 BIG EAST) were shutout for the first time since April 12.
Lexi Kobryn (L, 4-12) started for Villanova, pitching three innings, striking out one, walking three, and surrendering five runs on five hits.
Maggie King entered in relief in the fourth inning, walking two and giving up three runs on three hits in 1 1/3 innings pitched.
The Friars (24-15, 13-3) scored three runs in the top of the first, getting out to an early 3-0 lead. VU loaded the bases in the top of the first inning, but could not capitalize.
Providence scored two more runs in the top of the second to go up 5-0.
After a scoreless third inning by Kobryn, the Friars scored another run in the top of the fourth to go up 6-0.
Providence walked off the game on a two-run single in the bottom of the fifth.
