Box Score 2 ATLANTA, Ga. — The Villanova softball team fell twice Friday at the Buzz Classic in Atlanta, Georgia.
The 'Cats (0-4) started the day with a 1-0 loss to East Carolina (1-1) before falling to Georgia Tech (2-0) 8-0 in five innings.
Kat Gallant picked up her second start of the season and first quality start against the Pirates, going five innings, striking out three, walking one and surrendering a single unearned run. Gallant took the loss in the contest.
Julia Apostolakos started for East Carolina, pitching a complete game shutout, striking out five and walking one. She gave up two hits on the day.
The game was scoreless for the first three frames before the Pirates broke through in the top of the fourth on a fielder's choice.
Lexi Kobryn entered the game in relief to start the sixth, pitching two innings, walking one and striking out one. She gave up zero hits in the outing.
Villanova got two runners on base in the bottom of the sixth on an
Aubrey Police walk and
Jacquelyn Cox's first career hit, but hit into a 9-6 double play to end the threat.
A scoreless seventh wrapped up the Pirates win.
Maranda Runco got the start in the circle in the second game of the day, taking the loss after pitching 1 2/3 innings, walking four and giving up six runs (one earned) on three hits.
Tymber Harris pitched all five innings for the Yellow Jackets, taking the victory after striking out five, walking one and giving up five hits.
Georgia Tech took the lead early, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first. The Yellow Jackets scored six in the bottom of the second.
Carly Zych entered for the 'Cats for her second career appearance and got VU out of the inning.
Georgia Tech scored their final run of the game in the bottom of the third on a solo shot by Reese Hunter off of Zych.
Maggie King checked in for Villanova in the bottom of the fourth, pitching a scoreless frame before the Yellow Jackets closed out the contest.
