PLYMOUTH MEETING, Pa. – The Villanova University baseball team fell to UConn, 29-10, on Saturday (May 3) at Villanova Ballpark. Catcher
Jason Neff hit his third grand slam of the season and his third home run in as many games in the loss.
HOW IT HAPPENED
UConn (29-12, 13-4 BIG EAST) jumped out to an eight-run lead in the first two innings before
Brayden Leonard got Villanova (20-23, 4-10 BIG EAST) on the board with a solo home run in the bottom of the second. At the end of two frames, UConn led 8-1.
The Huskies scored two more runs in the top of the third, but Villanova answered with five runs behind a bases-loaded walk and Neff's ensuing grand slam. The run pulled the Wildcats within four runs.
UConn broke the game open in the top of the fourth, scoring 13 runs off of 11 hits. The Huskies tacked on five more runs in the fifth, bringing their lead to 22 runs.
Villanova pulled back within 19 with a three-run eighth inning, but the deficit was far too steep to overcome. UConn starter Tommy Ellisen received the win, while reliever Hector Alejandro earned his first save of the season by closing the game with three strong innings on the mound. Villanova starter
