McCollough, Whooley Named to All-BIG EAST Second Team

NEW YORK – Starting pitcher Luke McCollough and shortstop Michael Whooley have each been named to the All-BIG EAST second team, the conference announced Tuesday morning (May 20). It is the first time since 2022 that two or more Wildcats have earned postseason conference honors.

McCollough led the BIG EAST with 46.0 innings pitched in conference play, posting a 3.91 ERA and 1.22 WHIP in seven starts. He ranked third in the conference with 35 strikeouts against BIG EAST opponents.

The San Diego, Calif., native went at least 6.1 innings in each of his last four starts, holding four of the BIG EAST's top five teams to three earned runs or less in each appearance. He maintained a 2.70 ERA and 0.98 WHIP while recording 20 strikeouts during that span, solidifying a strong close to his Villanova career.

Whooley tied for eighth in the conference with a team-best five home runs in BIG EAST play. He joined Josue Valdez as the only to Wildcats to record an OPS of 1.000 or more.

Earlier in the season, Whooley became the first Villanova player since Dan Terpak in 2008 to hit a home run in three straight games. The feat was matched later in the season by catcher Jason Neff. Additionally, the shortstop closed the season on a 30-game on-base streak, Villanova's longest since Jeremy Hunt in 2006.
