VILLANOVA, Pa – Villanova women's lacrosse had a strong season opener, taking down the Binghamton Bearcats 20-4.
Sami Carey totaled five goals and six assists for her career-high 11 points, the most in a single game in program history according to the available team records.
The Wildcats also had strong efforts from
Jillian Vaught who scored four goals,
Sydney Pappas scoring three goals,
Rose Christie adding two goals and a trio of Freshman with two goals each,
Madison Freeman,
Lizzy Giordano and
Leslie Iorio.
In the first quarter the Wildcats up 8 goals. Christie started the momentum with the first two goals. Following suit, Freeman had her first goals as a Wildcat. Carey then had back to back goals. Securing another goal is
Sydney Pappas. Villanova earned a team point when the Bearcats score on their own net. Wrapping up the first Quarter is Iorlio with her first collegiate goal with less than a second left.
The 'Cats kept the momentum going in the second quarter. Carey was able to lock in another goal in addition to Pappas with her second goal of the game.Freeman and Iorio both secure their second goal of their college career. Sophomore
Jillian Vaught scores her first goal of the season putting the Wildcats up 13-3 at the end of the first half.
Ending the third quarter, Villanova Leads 19-4. Vaught managed to put up three more goals. While Carey put two more balls into the back of the net. Giordano managed to score her first goal as a Wildcat.
The fourth quarter showed a strong performance from Villanova defense, as they kept the Bearcats out of the net entirely with key performances from
Maggie Masuret,
Anne Edens,
Meghan Lowe,
Lindsay Kupka,
Caroline Keane and
Cate Gallagher.
Lizzy Giordano was the only player to score, giving her 2 in her first game at Villanova.
The Wildcats are back on the field as they host Saint Joseph's at the Villanova stadium on Wednesday at 1pm.
