VILLANOVA, PA – Villanova women's lacrosse team is now 2-0 after their victory over Saint Joseph's on Wednesday afternoon. The final score of the game was 14-10.
The 'Cats had eight players score goals, including four from freshman
Leslie Iorio, two from
Ashlyn Hickey,
Jillian Vaught and
Madison Freeman, one from
Rose Christie,
Sami Carey,
Elena Torres and
Sydney Pappas.
The Hawks start the game with 3 goals. Iorio was the first Wildcat to answer back, twice with assistance from Carey. Christie follows in suit shortly after to tie the game 3-3. With 28 seconds left, Torres scored, putting Villanova in the lead at the end of the first quarter.
Hickey starts the momentum in the second quarter, with an early goal.
Madison Freeman scores her first goal of the game shortly after. A goal from the Hawks ends the 'Cats 6 goal run. Pappas grabs her first of the game with Freeman hitting the net for a second time shortly after. At the end of the first half, Carey found Vaught who found the back of the net putting Villanova up 9-4.
Iorio starts the third quarter with a goal, assisted by Carey. Shortly after Hickey lands her second in the net with Carey's help. Carey then scores her first of the game with a pass from Hickey. Finishing off the quarter is a pass from Carey to Iorio who puts it in the back of the net.
The Hawks went on a 5-1 run in the fourth quarter, with Vaught grabbing her second goal of the day.
Carey ended the game with 7 points.
Emma Verhoest grabbed 8 draw controls and
Skylar Nixon lead the team with 4 ground balls.
The Wildcats will battle against Navy on Saturday afternoon. They day Will be a double header with Men's lacrosse playing at noon.
