LEWISBURG,PA - Villanova women's lacrosse brings home a win for their first road game of the season. The wildcats took down Bucknell 16-11 and are now 3-2.
The 'Cats had eight players score, leading is Sydney Pappas with four followed by Leslie Iorio with 3. Emma Verhoest totaled 12 draw controls and Sami Carey led the team with eight points in today's game including three goals and five assists. Juliet Walls had an assist, two ground balls and two caused turnovers.
Jillian Vaught passed to Carey who netted the first goal for the Wildcats. After the Bison brough the score to 2-1, Iorio found the back of the net for her first time this game. With less than a minute left in the first quarter, Carey scored her second goal and Pappas got her first of the game.
Rose Christie started the momentum for the Wildcats in the second quarter when she netted a pass from Iorio. Madison Freeman scored off a free position making the score 6-3. Ashlyn Hickey finds Iorio who sends the ball to the back of the net pushing the 'Cats up 7-5 at half.
Iorio has a quick goal in the second half with the help of Jillian Vaught who then goes on to score a goal shortly after. Hickey catches a pass from Pappas to score. Pappas scores her second goal of the game with less than a minute to play in the third. Elena Torres then scored unassisted. Christie then nets a buzzer beater.
Starting the fourth quarter with a goal from Carey followed by another goal from Pappas. The Bison then got three goals in a row with Pappas ending the run putting Villanova up 16-11 at the end of the game.
Villanova will be back on the field as they travel to Stanford on Saturday.
