Volleyball Closes Week With Win at Butler

Wildcats won three straight sets to take home the victory.

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Villanova volleyball defeated Butler in four sets (19-25, 25-19, 25-15, 25-23) Saturday night at the Hinkle Fieldhouse.

Abby Harrell (10 kills, 16 digs) recorded a double-double to lead the Wildcats (17-6, 8-4 BIG EAST).

"That's a good win on the road bouncing back," head coach Josh Steinbach said. "Cat Young made some big defensive plays at the end and both Reagan McGivern and Ava Mehrten blocked well — Abby Harrell coming up with three tough serves to seal it was huge."

Young and Campbell McKinnon each recorded eight kills in the match.

The first set saw the Bulldogs (12-13, 4-6) take control early and remain in control. Villanova came within four after a McKinnon and Taylor Lewis block made it 23-19, but ultimately fell.

Villanova pulled away late in what was a tightly contested second set. After a deadlock at 18, the Wildcats scored seven of the next eight points, with the final point coming from a Mehrten block.

After the five minute break, Villanova came out hot, taking a 4-1 lead early in the third set. From that point, the Wildcats held Butler, with a four-point deficit being the closest the Bulldogs came to tying the set.

Butler made a late push in the fourth set, tying the set at 19, 20, 22 and 23 before Villanova put the match to bed with a Lewis kill. Lewis, a hometown native of Indianapolis, finished her match with six kills.
