VILLANOVA, Pa. – Women's Water Polo continued their stellar first weekend by defeating Mount St. Mary's in their first of two games Sunday, 12-6.
Six different Wildcats scored in Sunday's lidlifter, including a team season-high five goals by
Riley Hull, three of which were scored in the first half.
Both teams went without a goal until 3:43 in the first quarter, when
Emily McKenzie scored her first of three goals on the day. VU was able to rattle off eight more in the rest of the first half.
The second half was quiet for both teams offensively; after Hull scored her fourth goal to start the third quarter, nobody scored until the waning seconds of the stanza when she found the back of the net again.
Gracin Kerry notched her third straight game allowing less than 10 goals. The junior picked up nine saves and two steals, including a 5M save early in the third quarter, a quarter in which she and the defense held the Mountaineers scoreless.
With this win, Kerry enters the record book tied for fifth in program history in goalie wins with 14, tied with Erin Foley and Olivia Perry.
Layla Canales and
Ella Mattocks also contributed greatly on both sides of the ball, both adding a goal and multiple steals.
