Jack Fredian Leads Wildcats at Main Line Invitational as Men’s Cross Country Tallies Second Straight Team Victory to Open the 2022 Season

HAVERFORD, Pa.—Villanova had a group of 11 runners in action at the Main Line Invitational on Friday evening and graduate student Jack Fredian (Arlington Heights, Ill.) paced the Wildcats lineup with a time of 19:25.2 over four miles on the Alumni Course at Haverford. Including the runners that were officially part of the Villanova contingent along with three unattached athletes, there were seven Wildcats among the top 10 overall finishers in the field of 136 competitors.

Fredian came in third overall in the race and was followed by sophomore Cole Walker (Chadds Ford, Pa.) who was fourth with a time of 19:26.1. The five scorers in the Villanova lineup were separated by just 36 seconds at the finish line. Graduate transfer Evan Addison (Collegeville, Pa.) finished sixth in 19:41.7 in his Wildcats debut, while Devon Comber (Ambler, Pa.) was seventh in 19:46.2 in his first official collegiate cross country race after two unattached races last season. Junior Sean Dolan (Pennington, N.J.) rounded out the Villanova top five with an 11th place overall finish and a time of 20:01.4.

Three more Wildcats tallied top-20 finishes on the day, including senior Ben Seiple (Westport, Conn.) who came in 14th with a time of 20:06.3. Junior Miller Anderson (West Hartford, Conn.) was 16th in 20:08.7 and graduate student Henry Myers (Portland, Ore.) placed 18th with a time of 20:09.8. Myers is a transfer from the University of Chicago who was an undergraduate teammate of current Villanova graduate student Ryan Cutter (El Sobrante, Calif.), an unattached runner in Friday's race who was the overall runner-up.

Redshirt first year runner Sean Donoghue (Dublin, Ireland) came in 29th in Friday's race with a time of 20:45.8, while graduate student Will Merritt (Smithsburg, Md.) posted a time of 21:11.0 and fifth-year senior Trevor Potts (Sparta, N.J.) crossed the finish line in 22:23.3. This is the second straight competition to begin the season in which the Wildcats recorded a first place team finish. Earlier in the month Villanova was the team champion at the Lehigh Invitational.

Unattached runner Marco Langon (Raritan, N.J.) won Friday's four-mile race in 19:13.4 which is the fourth-fastest time ever recorded by a Villanova athlete on the Alumni Course at nearby Haverford. Another first year runner who was unattached in the race was Jack Tavaglione (Califon, N.J.) who placed 10th in the field in 19:59.2.

Next up on the schedule for the Wildcats is the Paul Short Run at Lehigh on Friday, September 30.
