Piscataway, N.J. - The Villanova Wildcats fell to the Rutgers Scarlet Knights Saturday afternoon 17-4. Villanova falls to 1-5, while No. 14 Rutgers remains undefeated at 5-0 on the season.
Four different Wildcats scored in the game.
To open the contest, Rutgers scored the first goal at the 11:04 mark. Freshman
Sami Carey evened the score at 1-1 three minutes later, her fourth goal of the season. The home Scarlet Knights would finish the first quarter with a 4-1 lead.
Junior
Addie Fischer found the back of the net shortly after the second period began, off a pass from senior
Alexa Tsahalis. The goal made the score 4-2 with 12:12 left in the second. Rutgers would answer with three goals of their own, increasing the lead to 7-2. Freshman
Sydney Pappas ended the scoring draught after scoring her fourth of the season. An assist was credited to senior
Olivia Piccirilli.
Rutgers would tack on another goal to take a 7-3 lead into halftime. The second half saw the Scarlet Knights score six-straight, to make the score 13-3. With 2:54 left in the third, senior
Caroline Curnal converted a free-position chance.
With the score at 13-4 entering the final frame, Rutgers would score the game's final four goals.
Curnal led all players with six draw controls.
Villanova will face La Salle in their next match, on Wednesday, March 9. Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m. in Philadelphia, Pa.
