STATEN ISLAND, N.Y.—Junior middle distance runner
Miller Anderson (West Hartford, Conn.) tallied a first place finish in the 800 meters and the men's track & field team had several athletes record personal best marks during competition at the Villanova Invitational on Saturday afternoon. There were 11 men's teams and 12 women's teams competing in the Wildcats home meet at Ocean Breeze Track & Field Athletic Complex in the second meet of the indoor season.
Anderson recorded a winning time of 1:53.21 in the 800 meters to lead several Villanova athletes who competed in the distance races. Graduate
Ryan Cutter (El Sobrante, Calif.) had one of the top results for the day with a personal best time of 8:13.33 in the 3000 meters. Cutter, a newcomer to the Wildcats this year as a fifth-year transfer from UChicago, cut nearly eight seconds off his previous top time and came in third out of 32 runners in the 3000 meters.
The race included Villanova freshman
Devon Comber (Ambler, Pa.) who was an unattached competitor and posted a personal best time of 8:20.85. Junior
Mathias Powell (Mahomet, Ill.) added a time of 8:38.41 in the race. Sophomore
Chris Weeks (Springfield, Va.) ran the 1000 meters in Saturday's meet and posted a time of 2:34.03, while graduate student
Jacob Bonanotte (Barrington, Ill.) ran the 800 meters in 2:01.00.
Sophomore sprinter
Nicholas Mollica (Jackson, N.J.) established personal best times in the 60 meter hurdles and the 200 meters in a strong outing. He was the Wildcats first competitor in the 60 meter hurdles outside of multi-event competition in nearly four years and registered a time of 8.70 in the preliminary heats of the event. Mollica added a PR of 22.76 in the 200 meters later in the meet and ran the second leg of the 4x400 meter relay with a split of 49.41.
Senior
Richie Bush (Lawnside, N.J.) came in 12
th in the 200 meters in 22.39 and led off the 4x400 relay with a split of 49.90 for a Villanova squad which came in fourth in the race with a time of 3:20.28. Bush was followed by Mollica on the second leg of the relay, while Bonanotte ran third and Anderson anchored the race with a split of 49.50.
Kunzer came in eighth in the 400 meters earlier in the day with a time of 51.18 and sophomore
William Seijas (Shrewsbury, N.J.) added a time of 52.52. Senior
Dylan Henry (Chagrin Falls, Ohio) advanced to the final of the 60 meters and posted marks of 7.16 in the heats and 7.17 in the final. Graduate student
Michael Troup (Doylestown, Pa.) registered a mark of 7.20 in the preliminary heats and came within five-hundredths of a second of matching his personal best time.
Villanova newcomer
Riley LaRiviere (Telford, Pa.) came in third in the weight throw with a mark of 16.65 meters and placed sixth in the shot put with a measurement of 14.26 meters. The graduate transfer from Lehigh who made his Wildcats debut in last week's season opener now ranks fifth on Villanova's all-time performance list in the weight throw. Junior
Eduardo Perez (Appling, Ga.) came in seventh in the shot put with a throw of 13.58 meters. Also in action on Saturday was senior
Jim Keys (Herndon, Va.) who cleared a height of 4.55 meters in the pole vault.
Following two meets in New York to open the indoor campaign, the Wildcats head to Boston next weekend and will compete in the John Thomas Terrier Classic hosted by Boston University.
