STATEN ISLAND, N.Y.—Junior middle distance runner
Sean Dolan (Pennington, N.J.) was in midseason form with a sensational race in the 800 meters at the Penn 10-Team Select on Saturday evening. He ran the second-fastest indoor 800 meters in Villanova history and was one of two individual winners for the Wildcats at Ocean Breeze Track & Field Athletic Complex. Redshirt freshman
Liam Murphy (Millstone, N.J.) finished first in the Mile and the Wildcats recorded four top-three finishes overall.
Dolan won the 800 meters with a time of 1:48.11 to approach the indoor school record of 1:47.84 which has stood since February 12, 1982 when John Marshall posted the mark during the Millrose Games at Madison Square Garden. Saturday's performance by Dolan was his latest addition to the Villanova record book. He set a lifetime PR of 1:46.41 during the 2021 outdoor season and ranks fourth overall on the Wildcats all-time NCAA-season performance list.
Villanova accounted for three of the top seven finishers in a field of 25 competitors in the 800 meters. Senior
Charlie O'Donovan (Cork, Ireland) came in third with a time of 1:49.63 and junior
Miller Anderson (West Hartford, Conn.) came in eighth in 1:55.29.
The other individual winner for the Wildcats was Murphy, who posted a winning time of 4:04.81 in the Mile. Senior
Josh Phillips (Belrose, Australia) came in fifth in the race in 4:07.36 and was followed by junior
Haftu Strintzos (Melbourne, Australia) in eighth place with a time of 4:08.65. One other distance runner was in action for Villanova on Saturday night. Senior
Ben Seiple (Westport, Conn.) finished fifth out of 21 competitors in the 3000 meters with a time of 8:19.94.
Senior sprinter
Richie Bush (Lawnside, N.J.) had a strong start to the indoor season by reaching the final in the 60 meters and moving up three spots from where he ranked during the preliminary heats. Bush finished third in the final with a time of 7.05 after earlier ranking sixth (7.09) in the heats.
A pair of Wildcats field athletes made their Villanova debuts with top-eight finishes in their respective events. Graduate jumper
Sosa Omuemu (Foxborough, Mass.) placed fourth in the triple jump with a mark of 13.46 meters while graduate thrower
Riley LaRiviere (Telford, Pa.) was eighth in the shot put with a mark of 14.19 meters.
Villanova will return to Ocean Breeze Track & Field and Athletic Complex next Saturday when it hosts its annual home indoor meet, the Villanova Invitational.
