VILLANOVA, Pa. – It was another record setting afternoon for Villanova's
Katie Comerford Friday, but the Wildcats were unable to overcome Connecticut, falling 14-7 to the Huskies in a BIG EAST battle at Villanova Stadium.
Â
Five days after establishing a new program record for goals scored (139), the native of Yorktown Heights, N.Y., added three more goals and an assist. The assist, which came on a
Haley Driscoll goal with 1:47 to go in the first half, gives Comerford the career program record in that category as well (103). She now is the program record holder for goals, assists, and points.
Â
Caroline Curnal scored the first two goals of the day for the Wildcats to stake Nova to an early 2-0 advantage. But the Huskies got on the board with an unassisted goal by Kyra Place at 25:22 that was the first of eight straight scores by the visitors.
Â
Goals from Comerford, Driscoll and
Olivia Piccirilli narrowed the deficit to 8-5 at halftime.
Â
Connecticut scored three goals to two off the stick of Comerford in the first 16:52 of the second half to make it an 11-7 game. But the Huskies notched the final three goals of the day to cement the win.
Â
These two teams meet again Sunday at Villanova Stadium with the opening draw set for noon.
