Villanova battled No. 19 Hofstra evenly for 51 plus minutes Saturday afternoon in Hempstead, N.Y. The Pride, however, notched the final three goals of the contest and emerged with a 12-9 non-league victory over the Wildcats.
Â
          Â
Haley Driscoll tallied three goals for Villanova.
Alexa Moro made seven saves in goal for the 'Cats.
Â
Villanova (2-4 overall) needed just 19 seconds to get on the scoreboard.
Libby McKenna scored to give the Wildcats an early edge. A pair of goals from
Katie Comerford, the second off a Free Position opportunity, made it 3-0. When
Olivia Piccirilli scored eight minutes into the first period, Nova held a 4-0 lead and the Pride elected to call for a timeout.
Â
Hofstra (3-1 overall) was able to reverse the momentum, however. It reeled off five consecutive goals, four of them off the stick of Alyssa Parrella. The last of those came at 11:18 and gave the Pride its first lead of the day. Parrella's fifth goal of the half extended the Hofstra lead to 6-4 with 7:02 to play until halftime.
Â
Another Parrella goal pushed the Pride lead to 7-4 but Villanova senior
Haley Driscoll's seventh goal of the season, off an assist from
Kayla Gulmi, with 31 seconds left in the first half narrowed the deficit to 7-5. That's where the score stood at halftime.
Â
The sixth goal of the day for Parrella nudged the Pride lead to 8-5 but Gulmi added one to the Wildcats' column at 19:36 to shave the deficit to 8-6. Parrella scored again to make it 9-6 but Villanova responded with three goals, the last of which was scored by Driscoll to knot matters at nine with 9:53 on the game clock.
Â
But the Pride got the game's final three goals, all scored by Parella, who finished with 10 for the day.
Â
Villanova will be idle until Friday when it visits BIG EAST rival Georgetown for the first of two games next weekend against the Hoyas in Washington, D.C.
