VILLANOVA, Pa. – Despite a strong start to the season, the Wildcats (2-5) have dropped their last four contests. The team is looking to break that trend when it hosts local Philadelphia rival Temple (5-3) on Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
Leading the team on offense for Villanova are attacks Brittany Bruno and Katie Comerford. Bruno leads the team with 23 points off 17 goals and 10 assists, while Comerford has 21 points off 17 goals and four assists.
Senior attack Ashley Lynch is second on the team in assists with eight, two off Bruno's total.
On defense, Maggie Jennings has a team-high 17 groundballs.
Sophomore Sydney Frank leads the team in caused turnovers with 15 and is also the BIG EAST leader in the category.
In the net, sophomore Alexa Moro is averaging a league-high 10.57 saves a game, with 74 recorded already through the first seven games.
SCOUTING THE OWLS
Temple's leading point-getter is senior attack Meghan Hoffman, who has 11 goals and assists.
Owl freshman Belle Mastropietro has a team-high 17 goals and has started every game this season in the midfield.
On defense, Kara Nakrasius has scooped up 20 groundballs and leads the team with 42 draw control, while teammate Courtney Taylor has 13 caused turnovers.
As a team, the Owls have already recorded wins over Coastal Carolina, La Salle, Columbia, UMBC and George Washington.
In the game versus No. 6 Princeton on Feb. 15, the only shared opponent between the Wildcats, Temple narrowly fell 14-16 to the Tigers.
The Wildcats have won the last two matchups against the Owl, including a 13-8 win on the road in 2019.
In the all-time series, the Wildcats are 3-10 against Temple.
