RICHMOND, Va. – Although they were competing in the front end of back-to-back meets, the women's swimming and diving team of Villanova did not hold back against Richmond on Jan. 24. The Wildcats were able to topple the Spiders on the road, 173-124.
Villanova took first in 12 events and had placed in the top three 26 times on the day.
Nicole Welch continued to dominate distance events, touching first in the 1,000 and 500 freestyle with times of 10:24.32 and 5:05.70, respectively. However, she was not the only one claiming first in multiple events.
Milly Routledge took first in the 200 (1:51.37), 50 (23.94) and 100 (51.46) freestyles.
Micaela Grassi was victorious in the 200 and 100 butterfly with times of 2:05.97 and 57.36.
Bridie Dunn racked up scores of 283.65 and 264.37 in the 3 mtr dive and 1 mtr dive, respectively.
Kelly Montesi also had multiple wins, taking first in the 200 backstroke (2:00.67) and 200 IM (2:04.48). She also took second in the 100 backstroke with a time of 56.63.
Rayann Jaryszak touched first in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:06.28.
The Wildcats finished second in the 200 medley relay, swimming a time of 1:45.50.
Emily Provenzo was second in the 1,000 free with a time of 10:27.78.
Tarryn Els finished second in the 200 and 100 butterfly, swimming 2:06.41 and 58.42, respectively.
Kaitlin Gravell touched second in the 200 breaststroke (2:24.74), while
Brenna McLaughlin was second in the 500 freestyle (5:10.35). McLaughlin also registered a third-place finish in the 1,000 freestyle with a time of 10:28.09.
Grace Wielar took third in both the 200 freestyle (1:53.47) and the 200 backstroke (2:03.56).
Abbey Berloco also took third in two events, the 50 freestyle (24.69) and the 100 freestyle (53.36).
Perri Stahl finished third in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:07.52, while
Danielle Scarano was third in the 3 mtr dive with a score of 240.97.
It will not be long until the Wildcats are back in the pool as the host Connecticut on Jan. 25. Diving is scheduled to start at 10:00 a.m., followed by swimming at 12:00 p.m.
