The Villanova women's lacrosse (1-6) dropped their Wednesday night game to the Delaware Fighting Blue Hens 14-7.
Villanova and Delaware had the game tied at 2-2 in the opening ten minutes, Jillian Swikart and Chelsey Henderson scored both goals. In the following four minutes the Fighting Blue Hens went on a three goal run that was stopped by Carolyn Dottino-Buenahora, she brought the Wildcats within two.
The final 15 minutes of the half was a back and forth battle with each teams scoring two goals. Devin Hassinger scored for Villanova on a pass from Meghan Breen and Catherine Bendinelli had a goal of her own with the assist going to Hassinger. The Wildcats were down 8-5 at halftime.
To start the second half the Fight Blue Hens scored in the opening minutes but Henderson got the Cats back into it thanks to a pass from Jackie Froccaro. After Delaware's Jamie Schwartz scored her fifth and six goal of the game both on assists from Casey Lyons to give the Fighting Blue Hens a 11-6 lead with just over 20 minutes remaining.
After an over five minute drought of no goals by both teams, Kelsey Denihan got the Cats within three but Delaware scored three goals in the final minutes to take the final 14-7 lead.
Jaclyn Fraum started in goal and played 12 minutes, she was replaced by Julia Michaels who had a career high 13 saves in the final 45 minutes between the posts.
Next the Wildcats will travel to upstate New York to take on Albany this Sunday March 13 at 12 P.M.
