The Villanova women's lacrosse team (1-4) fell to the High Point Panthers (2-2) on Wednesday night by a final of 10-9.
Villanova came out strong to start the game going on a 3-0 run in the opening six minutes; Kelsey Denihan scored two of those goals while Carolyn Dottino-Buenahora had one of her own. The Panthers answered with their first goal about ten minutes in to make Villanova lead 3-1.
Senior Chelsey Henderson helped give the Cats a 4-1 lead with 19 minutes left in the half, but High Point came back strong tying the game up 4-4 with a minute left. Villanova's Jackie Froccaro scored with 19 seconds left in the first half to give the Wildcats a 5-4 lead heading into the locker room.
The second half was a back and forth battle that started with back to back High Point goals but Denihan put the run to an end, scoring her third goal of the game to make the game tied at 6.
Kathleen O'Connor scored of a free position shot, Froccaro then scored her 12 goal of the year, and Dotinno-Buenahora followed with her own free position shot to help launch the Wildcats to a 9-7 lead with just under 15 minutes to play. The Panthers were able to go on a three goal run during the final minutes to take a one goal lead that unfortunately the Wildcats couldn't catch up to.
Jaclyn Fraum played the whole game between the posts and finished with seven saves for Villanova. Defensively Sam Scarfogliero had a team high two caused turnovers while Elizabeth Armstrong had two draw controls.
The Wildcats will return home to take on the Drexel Dragons Saturday at 4 P.M.
