The Villanova women's soccer team dropped their Saturday afternoon game in Gettler Stadium to Xavier by a final of 1-0.
With the loss the Wildcats move to 3-12 overall and 1-5 in the BIG EAST while the Musketeers pick up their first conference win and are now 1-5 in the BIG EAST and 7-8-1 overall.
Both teams were locked at zero at intermission. The Wildcats dominated offensively in the first half taking 11 shots to Xavier's eight. Ida DiClemente took five of those shots in the opening 45 minutes and placed three on goal.
In the 54th minute Xavier's Samantha Dewey scored what would be the only goal of the game. She controlled the ball down the field and was able to get her shot to fall in the lower right corner.
As time expired Sam DePinho got a great shot off that was deflected by a defender and saved to make the final 1-0 Xavier.
Emily Harris played all 90 minute in goal for the Wildcats and finished with five saves. DiClemente finished with eight shots on the day and four on goal. Overall Villanova out shot Xavier 21 to 13 and placed eight shots on goal compared to the Musketeers six.
The Wildcats will return home to host Marquette on Thursday Oct. 20th. Kickoff is set for 4:00 P.M. and will be aired on BEDN.
