Villanova, Pa. - The Villanova women's lacrosse team (7-5, 2-1 BIG EAST) experienced their first home loss of the 2015 campaign falling to their BIG EAST rival Georgetown (3-9, 2-1 BIG EAST) with a score of 9-5. Despite a hat trick from senior Jackie Froccaro and 11 saves from junior goalkeeper Jacklyn Fraum; the Wildcats were unable to control the ball and suffered their first loss in five games.
Â
The Wildcats winning streak was the longest experienced by Head Coach Julie Young during her time at Villanova so far and continues to be the longest winning streak held by a BIG EAST school at this time.
Â
Georgetown posted four unanswered goals quickly as the Wildcats were unable to find the back of the net until junior Kelsey Denihan scored off a free-position shot with 7:14 left in the first half.
Â
The Hoyas sent Villanova into the locker room under a 5-1 deficit having beat out the `Cats in every category posting 17 shots to Nova's seven, 11 draw controls compared to the six from the Wildcats and seven turnovers to Villanova's 10.
Â
Things looked positive as Froccaro posted her first of three goals within the first minute and a half into the second half to bring the `Cats within three with a score of 5-2.
Â
The momentum was short lived as Georgetown quickly returned the favor posting two goals to pull away again. The two teams would continue to trade goals as Denihan once again scored and Froccaro found the back of the net two more times before the game ended with a score of 9-5.
Â
In the draw circle, sophomore Mariah Salerno gained possession of the ball three times for the Wildcats and also tallied three groundballs. Senior Jessica Mucci and Junior Tierney Griff also notched three ground balls.
Â
While the scoreboard may not show it, junior Fraum showed fantastic strength in the net against a Hoya offense that in the end would tally 31 shots; posting 11 saves on the game. Georgetown scored on only one of five free-position shots.
Â
The Wildcats will be back in action on Saturday as Villanova travels to Gainsville, Fla. To take on the Florida Gators at 1 p.m. The match-up will be a program first for either team as Florida continues its inaugural year in the BIG EAST.
