Final Stats
VILLANOVA, Pa - No. 9 ranked Georgetown officially welcomed Villanova to the BIG EAST Conference on Friday evening with an impressive 20-7 victory here at Villanova Stadium. The Wildcats (6-2 overall, 0-1 BIG EAST) entered the BIG EAST for lacrosse this season and tonight's contest was their league opener.
Georgetown scored the game's first eight goals before the contest was 15 minutes old. Jordy Kirr got the scoring started for the Hoyas less than three minutes into the game and Ashby Kaestner followed with a goal at 25:42. Jacqueline Giles, Sarah Seats and Kelsi Bozel made it 5-0 with 22:47 left before halftime and there would be three more Georgetown goals before the Wildcats could answer.
Sophomore Justine Donodeo netted a pair of goals for VU less than two minutes apart to narrow the deficit to 8-2. Senior Sarah Berger picked up an assist on the second goal at 11:53. Kathleen Dwyer then responded with a Georgetown score before Donodeo scored two more goals to cut the margin to 9-4 with 8:32 left.
However, the Hoyas (3-4 overall, 1-0 BIG EAST) recorded the last three goals before halftime to take a 12-4 cushion into the break.
An unassisted goal from junior Rachel Lasda brought the Wildcats to within 12-5 but a pair of Molly Ford goals gave the Hoyas a 14-5 advantage. Lasda and Carly Miller scored the final Villanova goals in what turned out to be a 20-7 defeat. Junior Maggie Langan made 12 saves in goal before giving way to freshman Amanda Hirschfeld in the second half. Georgetown owned a 38-15 edge in shots while the Wildcats owned a 15-14 advantage on draws controlled.
The Wildcats will play their final non-conference game of the regular season on Sunday afternoon when they visit Wagner at 1:30 p.m.
