Final Stats

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Villanova Wildcats (3-10, 0-4 Patriot League) lost a heartbreaking game to Marist College (3-7) Tuesday night. Down four goals with 21 minutes remaining, Villanova fought back and brought the deficit to one before time expired. A balanced attack led the `Cats as six players scored goals, two found the back of the net twice.

The teams traded goals throughout a first half that included three lead changes and four ties. The Red Foxes struck first, but Becky Gardner (Centerport, N.Y.) answered with her twelfth goal of the season. Marist scored another, but Christina Bahrs (Oceanport, N.J.) came through with a score from Kathleen Kelly (Manhasset, N.Y.) to tie it up. Katelyn Stone (Garden City, N.Y.) then put in the go ahead goal at 23:30.

As the first half continued, the Red Foxes took over the lead and went up by two, however the Wildcats came roaring back as Erica Roebuck (Broomall, Pa.) scored her first goal of the season. Bahrs brought the game back to even off of a free position attempt with her second goal of the day. With one minute left, Marist was able to sneak a shot past goalkeeper, Jessica Brozena (West Long Branch, N.J.), to give the Red Foxes a one goal advantage going into the locker room at 6-5.

A four minute span early in the second half proved to be Villanova's downfall as they allowed three goals. Looking at a four goal deficit, the `Cats were down but not out. Stevie McFadden (Reisterstown, Md.) sparked the Villanova rally with a goal at 13:10 off of a pass from Tayrn McKenna. Freshman Taylor Lucy then took matters into her own hands with a goals at 12:15 and another with three minutes to go with Kelly on the helper. The `Nova rally would fall one goal short, however, as time expired making the final 9-8.

Bahrs and Lucy both had two goals and Kelly added two assists on the day. Brozena took the loss in the cage but tallied seven saves. The Wildcats were able to go 1-3 on free position attempts while allowing none by the Red Foxes who went 0-2.

The `Cats return to Villanova Stadium on Saturday for a game against Bucknell at 2:00 p.m. Sunday marks the seniors' last home game as the squad takes on Mount St. Mary's at 1:00 p.m.
