Final Stats
BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Villanova Wildcats (3-9, 0-4 Patriot League) lost to the Lehigh Mountain Hawks (5-6, 1-2), 14-6, Saturday afternoon in Bethlehem, Pa. Three goals by midfielder and team leading scorer, Alex Garvey (Summit, N.J.), were not enough to propel the Wildcats over the Hawks.
Lehigh scored four early goals before Villanova was able to find the cage with an unassisted shot by Christina Bahrs (Oceanport, N.J.). It was her tenth goal for the season. That would be all of the first half Wildcat scoring, however, as the Mountain Hawks went on a tear netting five more goals before the break.
Garvey put her first one away at 23:36 making the score 9-2. Lehigh then tallied another four including one by leading scorer Sara MacIntyre who had four on the afternoon. Becky Gardner (Centerport, N.Y.) scored at 14:39 giving her eleven goals for the year, but once again Lehigh came back with an answer.
With three minutes left, `Nova pushed it into overdrive when Amanda Carlson (Middle Island, N.Y.) put in a pass from Erica Roebuck (Broomall, Pa.). Garvey was able to add two more, but the Wildcats' rally was cut short as time expired with 14-6 the final.
Jessica Brozena (West Long Branch, N.J.) took the loss with eight saves to Lehigh's six. Lehigh went an impressive 4-5 on free position attempts, while `Nova managed 1-3.
Villanova returns for its final home weekend of the 2006 campaign on Saturday, April 8 against Bucknell. The game is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m.
