Final Stats
HAMILTON, N.Y. - Villanova women's lacrosse (2-5, 0-2 Patriot League) outscored the Colgate University Raiders (4-4, 1-0) for six minutes in the first half and the entire second stanza. Unfortunately, the Raiders used the remaining first half minutes to go on an 11-0 run and beat Villanova 12-4 in Hamilton, N.Y. Saturday afternoon.
Kathleen Kelly scored her eighth goal of the year four minutes into the contest. Colgate answered a minute later, but Villanova had a retort as Shannon Sullivan found the back of the net to make the score 2-1. From that point on the game went south for the Wildcats.
Colgate stated their rally at 19:35 with a goal by Katie McVeigh. The scoring barrage continued through the first half making the score 11-2 at the break.
Despite the first half, Villanova came out and allowed one more goal on the day at the 29:02 mark. After that, the Wildcats turned their defense around to try and chip away at the deficit.
Kelly scored her second goal of the afternoon at 13:51 and Christina Bahrs added another at 1:40 but Villanova could not overcome the huge difference. At the final whistle the score was 12-4.
Jessica Brozena took the loss for Villanova playing all sixty minutes and registering five saves. Sue Bielamowicz had the win for the Raiders. Villanova did stay close in the stats however with 24 groundballs to Colagte's 23 as well as three less turnovers 23-26.
Villanova will travel to Le Moyne University for a game on Sunday.
