Final Stats
VILLANOVA, Pa. - Katie McVeigh scored four goals and added an assist to lead Colgate (3-0 overall, 1-0 Patriot League) to a 13-5 victory over Villanova (0-3 overall, 0-1 Patriot League) in a Patriot League contest played here Sunday afternoon.
McVeigh got the Red Raiders going when she fired a shot past Villanova goalie Jess Brozena (West Long Branch, N.J.) with just over four minutes gone in the game. McVeigh then scored again 40 seconds later to stake Colgate to a lead it would never relinquish. Megan Janson and Briane Tierney each scored goals on free position shots to give the Raiders a 4-0 advantage with 22:12 left in the first half.
Freshman Stevie McFadden (Reiserstown, Md.) scored the first of her two goals on the day to get Villanova on the scoreboard with 19:43 left in the first half. Classmate Kathleen Kelly (Manhasset, N.Y.) was credited with an assist on the goal that made it 4-1.
Colgate responded by scoring the game's next six goals, including two from Eden Haladay and two from Kelly Winning. The Wildcats got another goal from McFadden and one from Becky Gardner (Centerport, N.Y.) to make it a 10-3 Colgate lead at the half.
Any hopes of a Villanova rally were thwarted when McVeigh scored at 27:57 of the second half off a pass from Winning to make it 11-3. Winning then scored four minutes later to increase the lead to 12-3 and the Wildcats never got closer than eight goals the rest of the way. Senior Amy Rocap (Vienna, Va.) and Gardner completed the scoring for Villanova.
Next up for Villanova is a road date with Drexel on Tuesday at 3:00 p.m.
