Saint Joseph's Downs Women's Lacrosse 18-8

Philadelphia, PA - The Saint Joseph's University Hawks downed Villanova University on Finnesey Field by a score of 18-8. Senior Kristen Teklinsky and sophomore Kerry O'Connell each had five goals, while senior Amie Schmoltze added three tallies for the victorious Hawks. The win improved St. Joe's record to 7-5 while Villanova dropped to 1-16 with the loss.

Saint Joseph's got on the scoreboard first, with a pair of goals by O'Connell to take an early 2-0 lead. Villanova responded with a goal to but the lead in half, but Schmoltze scored her first goal, and O'Connell her third, to make the score 4-1 in favor of the Hawks. The Wildcats trimmed the lead once again on a goal by Lindsey Syphard, but the Hawks answered once again with goals by Lindsey Brown, Jenny Egan and Amie Schmoltze's second goal to give St. Joe's a 7-2 lead with 9:55 remaining in the first half. Villanova rallied to score three late goals, but Kristen Teklinsky scored her first goal of the game to give the Hawks a 8-5 advantage at halftime.

In the second half, the Hawks exploded out of the gates with five unanswered goals to take control of the game. Teklinsky scored three goals during this period, in addition to tallies by Kerry O'Connell and Megan Gresh. This offensive flurry gave Saint Joseph's a 13-5 edge with 16:56 remaining in the game. Villanova broke their scoring drought when Becky Gardner scored for the Wildcats, but St. Joe's answered with another offensive outburst, scoring five more goals. Junior Shannon Scott scored twice, and Kristen Teklinsky, Kerry O'Connell and Amie Schmoltze each added a tally to make the score 18-6. Villanova scored two goals in the closing minutes to make the final score 18-8.

Junior Courtney Huff had a solid game in goal for the Hawks making nine saves on 15 shots.

Villanova completes its season with this contest.
