VILLANOVA, Pa. - The Bucknell Bison (7-5 overall, 3-2 Patriot League) scored seven consecutive goals after halftime to break open a tight contest and went on to a 15-8 victory over Villanova (1-13 overall, 0-5 Patriot League) here on a sunny afternoon at Villanova Stadium.
Senior Meredith Wright scored two goals and had three assists on the day while teammate Laura Nuss accounted for four goals and one assist for Bucknell.
Nuss opened the scoring with a goal at the 29:14 mark of the first half off an assist from Andrea Paraud. Senior Katie Mannix (Crofton, Md.) responded just over two minutes later for Villanova to knot the game. Bucknell then picked up the next three goals, on tallies by Paraud, Emily Burman and Amy Hasler to build a 4-1 advantage. Junior Steph Haas (North Wales, Pa.) answered for Villanova before Nuss and Wright added two more goals to make it a 6-2 edge with 11:35 left in the half for Bucknell.
The Wildcats charged back with three consecutive goals of their own before intermission. Haas and sophomore Cindy Koza (Thornton, Pa.,) combined on all three of them. Haas had one goal and two assists while Koza had two goals and one assist.
The game was tight early in the second before Bucknell broke free. Edge scored a goal off a pass from Wright to begin a seven goal flurry that did not cease until junior Amy Lee beat 'Cats goalie Jess Brozena with 8:54 left on the clock. By that point the Bison owned a 13-5 lead.
Kristen Morea (Carle Place, N.Y.), Amy Rocap (Vienna, Va.) and Tierney Hoover scored the final three Villanova goals.
Villanova closes out the home portion of its 2004 schedule with a non-conference matchup against the University of Pennsylvania on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. Seniors Rachel Damalouji, Lauren Ferrara and Katie Mannix will be honored in pre-game festivities on Senior Night.
