Women's Lacross Falls To Towson 14-9

March 31, 2001

Towson, Md. - Junior Sarah DePeters scored five goals but that wasn't enough to offset a potent Towson Tiger attack as Villanova (3-6 overall, 2-1 Patriot League) dropped a 14-9 decision to the Tigers on Saturday afternoon at Minnegan Stadium.

Freshman Tracey Drown scored four of her five goals in the second half to spark Towson (4-4 overall) to the victory.

DePeters (Rochester, N.Y.) gave Villanova an early 1-0 lead when she scored her first goal just 41 seconds into the game off an assist from sophomore Caitlin Cocks (Northport, N.Y.). However, Towson responded with a 4-0 surge, sparked by Kat Brady and sophomore Kristyn Krastel over the next 11:17 and the Tigers would not trail for the balance of the afternoon. Brady and Krastel scored two goals apiece during the Tigers' run.

Villanova cut the deficit to 4-3 with 11:27 to go in the first after DePeters added two more goals, and the Wildcats tied the game at five with 9:31 left after an unassisted score by sophomore Meghan Carolan (Hicksville, N.Y.). But the Tigers held Villanova scoreless for the remainder of the half and took a 7-5 lead into intermission after goals by Brady and sophomore Melissa Garner.

The Wildcats pulled to within 8-7 just 5:09 into the second half following DePeters' fifth goal of the game before Towson used a 5-0 run over the next 14:12 to pull away for good. Senior Merri Adamicki gave the Tigers their biggest lead of the day, 13-7, when she punched in her second goal of the season with 7:44 remaining.

Freshman Brandy Grenier (Rochester, N.Y.) started in net and made five saves in the game's first 38 minutes for the 'Cats. Sophomore Kelly O'Leary finished up and recorded five saves as well.

Villanova returns to action on Sunday at noon when it hosts the University of California at Villanova Stadium.
