Sept. 29, 2000

MORGANTOWN, W.V.--- In Morgantown, W.V., on Friday, Sept. 29, the West Virginia Mountaineers handed the Villanova women's soccer team its second straight 1-0 defeat behind a Vanessa Heppeler goal at the 35:58 mark of the first half. The Wildcats' loss was their second consecutive and dropped their record to 6-5-0 overall and 0-2-0 in the Big East. The Mountaineers improved to 8-3-0 with Friday's win, and 1-2-0 in conference play.

With just under 10 minutes remaining before halftime and the game still scoreless, West Virginia's Lisa Stoia found Heppeler who beat Villanova goalkeeper Janel Schillig with the contest's first goal. The Mountaineer's first goal would be enough, as West Virginia snuck past the `Cats 1-0.

The Mountaineers out shot Villanova 32-9 in the game, but could only manage one goal on Schillig, who saved a game-high 10 shots. Posting the shutout in net for West Virginia was Melissa Haire who saved five shots.

The Wildcats will attempt to break their two-game losing streak on Sunday, Oct. 1, traveling to Pittsburgh, Pa., to play the University of Pittsburgh Panthers at 12:00 p.m.
