Wildcats Fall In Women's Lacrosse To Rutgers

April 6, 2000

Villanova, Pa. - The Villanova Wildcats got two goals each from sophomores Sarah DePeters and Cecily Pierce but were unable to slow a potent scoring attack for Rutgers, as the Scarlet Knights defeated Villanova 16-8 in a game played Thursday evening at Villanova Stadium.

Eight different players scored for the Scarlet Knights, who improved their record to 4-5 on the season. Elizabeth Chambers tallied six goals on the night, including three in a span of 4:27 seconds in the first half. That helped Rutgers build an 8-3 halftime edge.

Any hopes of a Wildcat rally to match the one generated on Monday afternoon against Duquesne were quickly put to rest as Chambers scored two goals in the first 10 minutes of the second half to help Rutgers build a 10-3 advantage.

Joining DePeters and Pierce in the scoring column for Villanova were Julie Feddeman (one goal), Meghan Carolan (two goals in the second half to go with one assist) and Caitlin Cocks (one assist).

Villanova (3-9 overall, 1-2 Patriot League) returns to action on Tuesday at St. Joseph's. Game time is 4:00 p.m.
