VILLANOVA, Pa. - Jen Amendola scored 10 goals, including the game-winner with 1:53 to play in the second overtime period to lead Holy Cross to a 15-14 victory over Villanova in a women's lacrosse game played Saturday afternoon at Villanova Stadium.
The contest was close for most of the afternoon. The Wildcats scored six unanswered goals after falling behind 2-0 in the first four minutes of play. But the Crusaders, behind Amendola's five first half goals pulled even at the break (8-8).
Excellent work in the offensive zone helped Villanova build a 13-10 advantage with 15:01 remaining in the second half. But the Crusaders rallied, tying the game on an Amendola goal with just two seconds remaining in regulation time.
Terri Overturf gave Villanova a 14-13 lead at 2:23 of the first overtime. But Carrie Phelan responded for Holy Cross and then Amendola came up with the winner at the 1:53 mark of the second overtime period.
Meghan Carolan scored four goals for Villanova while Sarah DePeters contributed two goals and two assists. Senior Katie Craig scored her first goal of the season in the second half in her final home game.
Villanova concludes the regular season with a 3-13 overall mark, 1-4 in the Patriot League. Holy Cross improves to 4-12 overall, 1-4 in the Patriot League.
