The Lafayette Leopards rode an 11 goal first half to a 20-8 victory over the Villanova Wildcats in a Patriot League contest played Saturday afternoon in Easton, Pa.
Lafayette scored five goals in the game's first 10 minutes to build a cushion and never looked back. Jackie Higgins got the Wildcats on the board and sophomore Sarah DePeters scored at the 21:12 margin to cut the margin to two goals. But at intermission the Leopards enjoyed an 11-4 advantage.
DePeters led the Wildcats with five goals on the afternoon. Freshman Elizabeth Firth added two more while freshman Caitlin Cocks contributed a pair of assists. Cecily Pierce also had an assist.
Villanova (3-7 overall, 1-2 Patriot League) hope to rebound on Monday afternoon at home against the Dukes of Duquesne. That contest is slated to begin on the astroturf of Villanova Stadium at 2:30 p.m.
