Women's Lacrosse Drops Decision to Penn

March 21, 2000

Villanova, Pa. - On a rain-soaked afternoon at Villanova Stadium the University of Pennsylvania rode a balanced attack to a 14-7 victory over the Villanova Wildcats.

The two teams traded goals at the outset, with Tracy Marabella and Kate Murray scoring for the Quakers while freshman Jackie Higgins (Manhasset, N.Y.) and Meghan Carolan (Hicksville, N.Y.) put the Wildcats on the scoreboard. A Molly O'Conor (Towson, Md.) goal gave the 'Cats a 3-2 edge at the 21:25 mark.

But Pennsylvania came up with the next five goals, as Marabella and Chrissy Book each scored a pair. At halftime the Quakers enjoyed a 7-3 lead.

In the second half Pennsylvania managed to keep the Wildcats at a distance. Villanova got another goal from O'Conor at the 25:43 mark but could get no closer than a five goal differential the rest of the afternoon as a driving rain played havoc with the field conditions.

Marabella and Chrissy Book each scored four times for Pennsylvania while Carolan's three goals paced the Villanova attack. Freshman Caitlin Cocks (Northport, N.Y.) also scored for the Wildcats while goalie Kelly O'Leary made 13 saves for Villanova in net.
