Villanova, Pa. - Honor Crowther scored with 11 seconds left in regulation to break a 9-9 deadlock and give the Boston College Eagles (2-2) a victory over the Villanova Wildcats (1-3 overall, 0-0 Patriot League) in a contest played Saturday afternoon at Villanova Stadium.
Boston College built a 5-1 lead at intermission as Crowther scored three times in the first half. Sophomore Cecily Pierce (New Canaan, Conn.) had the only Wildcat goal of the opening half.
The Eagles moved out to a 7-2 lead early in the second half when Emily Ryan and Susan Pitt scored. But a goal by freshman Jackie Higgins (Manhasset, N.Y.) sparked a furious rally on the part of the Wildcats. Julie Feddeman, Pierce, Meghan Carolan, Elizabeth Firth, and Sarah DePeters tallied for the Wildcats to close the gap to 9-8 with 4:51 remaining in regulation.
Terri Overturf scored the tying goal at the 1:04 mark for Villanova. But Crowther answered as time wound down in regulation.
Pierce ended the day with three goals for the Wildcats while DePeters added a goal and an assist.
Villanova returns to action on Sunday afternoon at home against La Salle in a 1:00 p.m. start.
