In their final road game of the season the Villanova Wildcats dropped a 4-1 decision to the University of Connecticut Huskies in a Big East men's soccer game played Wednesday evening in Storrs, Conn.
The Huskies, ranked No. 5 in the nation, used two goals from freshman Cesar Cuellar (Santa Cruz, Bolivia) to defeat the 'Cats before a crowd of 1,816 at Morrone Stadium. The Huskies improve to 12-2-2 overall and 7-1-2 in the conference while Villanova drops to 5-8-2 and 2-6-2 in the Big East.
Junior Chris Gbandi opened the scoring for the Huskies on a penalty kick at the 19:06 mark after senior Brent Rahim was taken down in the Villanova box. Cuellar netted the first of his two goals later on a chip over Villanova goalkeeper John Williams assisted by Max Zieky. Cuellar then opened the second half scoring at the 52:15 mark, scoring on a scramble in front of the Wildcat net.
Chris Edgar scored the lone goal for the Wildcats at the 59:58 mark. It was the freshman from Mahwah, N.J.'s fourth goal on the season and second in as many games.
Villanova returns to action this Saturday at the Villanova Soccer Complex against Seton Hall. Game time is noon.
