On Sunday, Sept. 19, in the second day of the Sheraton Four Points Classic in Harrisonburg, Va., James Madison University (4-3-0) scored three goals in the opening 16 minutes of the game, as the 13th-ranked Dukes went on to post a 5-2 win over Villanova University in women's soccer action. With the loss, the Wildcats' record falls to 5-2-0 overall on the season.
Christy Yacono was credited with assists on the first three JMU goals. She passed to Beth Burgess on the Dukes' first and third scores, and was credited with an assist on the second JMU goal by Aimee Grahe. The goals came at 2:38, 9:20 and 15:59.
Grahe scored her second goal of the day early in the second period, on a header off a Burgess pass at 51:01.
Both Villanova scores came in the second half. Sophomore midfielder Jessica Painchaud scored off a Jennifer Carrigan throw-in at 50:07, and freshman Julie Battista hit the nets at 78:06. The goals were Painchaud's fourth of the season, and Battista's first of her collegiate career.
Villanova's sophomore goalkeeper Janel Schillig had eight saves for the 'Cats in the loss, giving her 62 for the season.
The Wildcats will get back into action on Wednesday, Sept. 22, as they travel to Columbia University to play at 7:00 p.m.
